Re-Takes and New Students/Faculty: Bernard Moss (photographer)
will be on campus on Tuesday (24 Feb) in the entrance of the Auditorium to do
photo re-takes as well as photos of new students and new faculty.
Graded
Jazz Festival (Feb 26-28): is a special event
that Graded has hosted for the past 13 years; we bring in professional jazz
educators from the US and utilize widely acclaimed local jazz players to work
closely with our students (this year, with international school students from
Quito, Brasilia, and Caracas) teaching them the finer aspects of playing their
instruments and understanding the jazz idiom. It is an incredible experience,
and it is open to all qualified Graded music students. Students who would
like to participate see Mr. Stange.
Course Selection: As you know it's time to start thinking
about the courses that you will take next year. We want to provide you with two
important links that you'll need to be able to complete the process. You can
find version 4 of the 2015-16 Course Catalog on our
website. We have made a few revisions since we sent it out last week so please
make sure that you have the latest version. Also, when you are ready to
select your classes you can do so through the community login portal. Please see your
counselor if you have any questions. Remember that the deadline is March 16th.
Grading and Reporting in the High
School: Mr. Peterson has written
number of articles that have been published in The Graded Gazette addressing the changes Graded has been making in
the way we grade and report. Here is
the link to those articles: 1. What Do
We Know About Re-assessments; 2. Tracking Changes in Grading and Reporting; and
3. Next Steps.
Graded’s Start-up, Stay-up (March 5-7) will be a student-led conference where students come
together to work day and night for three days to create, design, and pitch a
social entrepreneurship project to a panel of experts. Conference participants
will register individually, or in small groups of up to three students, with an
idea or framework for a social start-up that meets a need in their community.
Student groups will work with mentors and consultants to develop their
start-ups.
Students will have plenty of time to work on their projects
throughout the three days. One exciting feature to the conference will be that
students have the opportunity to spend the night at Graded. We will provide
space in our library for people to sleep. Graded will provide food, as well as
chaperones, for the overnight stay. It will be a fun time to bond with all of
the students who will be participating in the conference.
A recent addition to our schedule is Mara Mourão (Director of the
film Who Cares?) who will participate
in a Q&A session with the student groups after a viewing of the movie. This
is an exciting addition to an already dynamic schedule we have
in store for the participants. Students can
register here.
The IoT World Forum Young
Women’s Innovation Grand Challenge is a global innovation
challenge open to young women between the ages of 13-18. The aim of the
challenge is to recognize, promote, and reward young innovators as they come up
with new uses for Internet of Things technologies. The competition is completely
free and fully online. The deadline to apply is March 25th.
First place winners receive $20.000 USD (which is approximately 56.000 BRL).
For more information go to http://iotchallenge-cisco.younoodle.com/about-the-challenge/ or see Mr. Fernandes
Snack Bar Survey: After one semester of
Paneria offering service to Graded we are conducting a customer satisfaction
survey in order to ascertain needs and obtain recommendations to improve their
service. Please take five minutes to complete the survey which closes on
February 28 at noon.

REMINDER
OF THE WEEK
Work Assigned
During School-Related Absences
Students
who will miss classes due to a school activity are required to fill out a “Student Planned Absence Form” that
lists the assignments and assessments to be missed, date those assignments will
be due or assessments completed and is signed by each teacher on the students’
schedules. The form is to be completed at least 48 hours before
departure. The assistant principal, activities director, athletic
director, community service coordinator and director of the arts program will
oversee the process in coordination with coaches, advisers and teachers.
