What's on the Docket # 25 ~ March 2 to March March 8

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

The PGC class of 2014-2015 will be having Family Night for freshmen and their parents on Monday, March 2nd, from 19:00 to 21:30 in the Auditorium.

March 3 - World Wildlife Day

Doodle Week sponsored by the Yearbook Staff: "Dear students, when you find a blank poster in your hallway, feel free to doodle and draw to become a part of our publication! Thank you!"

Thursday, 5 March Schedule: Due to the Innovate Conference Block 8 will occur after lunch (13:15 to 14:40) followed by FLEX (14:40 to 15:10). All students must go off campus at 15:15 except students participating in the Start-up, Stay Up Conference. There will be no practices, rehearsals or activities after school on Thursday. No classes on Friday, 6 March, due to the Conference.

The US Library will be closed on Tuesday, 3 March, and on Thursday, 5 March

Graded’s Start-up, Stay up Conference (March 5-7) will be a student-led conference where students come together to work day and night for three days to create, design, and pitch a social entrepreneurship project to a panel of experts. Conference participants will register individually, or in small groups of up to three students, with an idea or framework for a social start-up that meets a need in their community. Student groups will work with mentors and consultants to develop their start-ups. Students will have plenty of time to work on their projects throughout the three days. One exciting feature to the conference will be that students have the opportunity to spend the night at Graded. We will provide space in our library for people to sleep. Graded will provide food, as well as chaperones, for the overnight stay. It will be a fun time to bond with all of the students who will be participating in the conference.

Day Care: is an excellent opportunity to play and have fun with kids that come from outside of school. This allows you to do community service while having fun! Being there and taking care of the children makes their day so much better and makes them very happy, it allows you to create a connection with them. This semester, the 6th grade class will also be participating. We encourage you to join! This activity takes place every Friday after school from 3:15 to 4:00. For more information or if you want to sign up please speak to Bleuwenn Le Corre.

Course Selection: As you know it's time to start thinking about the courses that you will take next year. We want to provide you with two important links that you'll need to be able to complete the process. You can find version 4 of the 2015-16 Course Catalog on our website. We have made a few revisions since we sent it out last week so please make sure that you have the latest version. Also, when you are ready to select your classes you can do so through the community log in portal. Please see your counselor if you have any questions. Remember that the deadline is March 16. Here is the link to the Strings Program at Graded which we could not present at the “Shopping for Electives” assembly due to technical difficulties.

Grading and Reporting in the High School: Mr. Peterson has written number of articles that have been published in The Graded Gazette addressing the changes Graded has been making in the way we grade and report. Here is the link to those articles: 1. What Do We Know About Re-assessments; 2. Tracking Changes in Grading and Reporting; and 3. Next Steps.

The Internet of Things World Forum for Young Women’s Innovation Grand Challenge is a global innovation challenge open to young women between the ages of 13-18. The aim of the challenge is to recognize, promote, and reward young innovators as they come up with new uses for Internet of Things technologies. The competition is completely free and fully online. The deadline to apply is March 25th. First place winners receive $20.000 USD (which is approximately 56.000 BRL). For more information go to http://iotchallenge-cisco.younoodle.com/about-the-challenge/ or see Mr. Fernandes

The Talon is pleased to announce that it recently won a Gold Medal from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. Your ongoing support has been instrumental—thank you.
